Cinema Voyage - Michael Pearson

This blog is PRIMARILY about movies. Some dvd and some that are still in the theater. Also, links are provided on some movies if you decide you want to purchase it. Also, I write and read quite a bit. So, you may, from time to time see a book review here from an up-and-coming author or an interview with one. If you have a book that you have written, please don't hesitate to contact me if you want an unbiased opinion. I would be happy to read and review what you've written. We should value our creative people more.

Cinema Voyage - August 2009

Review - G-Force

August 22nd 2009 00:56
G-Force is a fun movie about a team of secret agent guinea pigs trying to foil a plot involving the billionaire Leonard Saber (Bill Nighy). At the same time these furry animals are trying to avoid capture by the US government as their department has been forced to disband under the leadership of Kip Killian (Will Arnett).

In order to get their badges and earn the goverment's respect, the guinea pigs along with the help of a fly and a mole and other creatures, show that size is no issue in getting the job done. And just for the record these guinea pigs are no hamsters.

Aided by two humans, Ben (Zach Galifianakis) and Marcie (Kelli Garner), there is a lot of fun to be had in the guinea pig adventures and this Jerry Bruckheimer production will certainly be lapped up by the children who like the thrills it brings.

I particularly and shamelessly enjoyed the scenes where tough girl hamster and Facebook fan, Juarez was purchased by a young girl and given a princess makeover complete with dress, tiara and nailpolish.

I saw this with my 4 year old daughter and admittedly it didn't capture her attention and unlike me, she was no fan of the 3D adventure either. For me, it created an extra element and brought it to life although it did remind me a lot of 2001's Cats and Dogs in parts with a nod to Transformers towards the end.

Penelope Cruz, Jon Favreau, Sam Rockwell, Nic Cage and Tracy Morgan provide the voices of the critters and overall I found the 3D escapade amusing and entertaining.

Intermission

August 11th 2009 18:20
Apologies for not having posted for a while but the move from China to Canada has meant that I have not been able to view many (translate to any) movies in a while.

Hopefully once things settle down then I will be back on track.

If anyone has any particularly good recommendations, please let me know.
