Academy Awards 2009
February 20th 2009 10:49
22 February 2009 is the date set for the Oscars and no doubt controversy will follow in it's wake. Hugh Jackman is set to host the evening and as always, spectators will be following the fashion, as well as the results of the night.
Benjamin Button is up for an amazing 13 nominations and although it was one of my favourite films in 2008 I am sure that it will only take home a handful of those.
I am tipping Mickey Rourke to win for The Wrestler although would like to see it go to Richard Jenkins for his role in The Visitor. Heath Ledger will no doubt win for Supporting Actor although I think Phillip Seymour Hoffman owned his role in Doubt.
As to Best Actress - I am not sure on this one. I feel that Melissa Leo deserves one for baring her soul in Frozen River although think it will end up going to Kate Winslet. And for Supporting Actress I loved Taraji P Henson in Benjamin Button.
Best Picture and Best Director will follow in the BAFTA's footsteps selecting Slumdog Millionaire for both categories.
But then again if the choices were that easy to predict then I guess the ceremony itself would not be necessary. Bring out the popcorn and the beer - it's going to be a long night!
