‘Across The Universe’ – Film Review
March 8th 2008 10:17
Quite easily, one of the most visually stunning movies ever created. Director Julie Taymor, has made an absolutely brilliant, beautiful film.
After hearing some buzz on the movie, in the months leading up to the film’s release, I was quite intrigued. A movie about the Beatles? Well surely that must be haggard, can’t they come up with anything new, and they certainly have.
The cast are relatively all unknowns; with the exception of Evan Rachel Wood (Thirteen). There are quite a few surprise cameos, Bono, as the eccentric writer Dr Robert, Salma Hayek as the singing nurse(s) and Joe Cocker as the pimp. The fresh faces added a whole other dimension to the movie, honestly I can’t think of any other actors/ actresses that could have done a better than the chosen cast, all were simply amazing.
All characters in Across the Universe, originate from names in the titles or lyrics in extensive Beatles catalogue.
This movie appeals to both fans of the Beatles and newcomers. 34 Beatles tracks were re-recorded for the movie and the accompanying soundtrack. And it is an astonishingly interesting experience to listen to the new versions of the much loved Beatles classics, and they certainly do not disappoint.
Across the Universe, is an amazingly exquisite film, mainly due to Taymors artistic vision (Who knew nailing strawberries to a wall would look that amazing?) The effects in the movie are a combination of seamless CGI and stunning cinematography and art direction.
Across the Universe is an absolute gem, it has an irresistible charm and it will reel you in, you will be humming and singing along the whole movie. Be prepared you will be singing to yourself for a while after seeing Across the Universe.
Across the Universe is available to buy in Australia on 19 March 2008.

A Little Bit of This, A Little Bit of That
At the time, we were only the 2nd film festival in the world to play the movie. I am so pleased Disney International let us have the film before its regular release in Thailand in Janaury this year.
Movie was great! Our audience enjoyed it - my only regret, since it was closing movie, we only played it once.
