Basic Storyline:
Storyline was decent but well used.
Man from another culture enters another culture with personal agenda. Realizes that his way of life was wrong and he must try to defend the less technologically advanced people from the interlopers. The main character falls in love with one of their tribe and chooses to live with her rather than return to his own people.
Review:
Overall plot leaves something to be desired. One might begin to think, "Is this what would happen if Dances with Wolves went to another planet?" (Sans Kevin Costner of course.)
No big headlining actors in this film, which is refreshing.
Big plus goes to the movie for landmark special effects. If S.E. is what you go to a movie for, then this has everything made before it beat hands down. Very difficult to tell where reality ended and CGI began. Of course you know that there are no 9 foot tall, blue skinned (with tiger stripe), people who have braids that they can attach to animals and control them, but that concept is very original. Much care and detail was made into every character as well as in the surroundings. The S.E. was truly breathtaking.
I recommend seeing this movie for, if nothing else, the S.E. There has NEVER been anything like it in that department. If you are looking for an original story, then, well... try another movie.

Secondly, concerning the movie. It is a LITTLE eco-crazy, and also a little anti-military, but it, I believe is necessary to the storyline. Not only that, but whenever anyone writes something, and they truly pour themselves into it, it is impossible to keep personal opinion on issues out of it. Such is the nature of the beast. If we have conservative values, you will see more conservative issues at the forefront.
As far as if the movie is really good, as I said above, the storyline is formulaic and the characters are archaetypical. However, the movie is more about showcasing the special effects than it is about chastising people for not being good stewards of the environment. The s.e. are truly breathtaking, and the movie can be watched simply for that and be enjoyable.
