Cinema Voyage - Michael Pearson

This blog is PRIMARILY about movies. Some dvd and some that are still in the theater. Also, links are provided on some movies if you decide you want to purchase it. Also, I write and read quite a bit. So, you may, from time to time see a book review here from an up-and-coming author or an interview with one. If you have a book that you have written, please don't hesitate to contact me if you want an unbiased opinion. I would be happy to read and review what you've written. We should value our creative people more.

Buffy Season 2 – Favourite Episodes

June 12th 2008 02:05

After recapping my favourite episodes from season 1, I am now onto season 2. So I will get straight into it.

In no particular order:

SEASON 2

1. When She Was Bad (13)
The first episode of season 2, Buffy after defeating the master at the conclusion of season 1, goes to LA for the summer. She returns for the school year, a little meaner (according to Willow and a bit-cah according to Xander) obviously still very much affected by the events with the master. After sharing a saucy dance with Xander at the Bronze, with Willow, Angel and Cordelia looking on everyone knows something is going on. The Masters followers dig up his bones to resurrect him, capturing those who were physically near him when he died (Willow, Jenny Calender, Cordelia and Giles) Buffy must then save her friends from death and prevent the rising of the Master.

Also the introduction of Buffy’s (Gellars) makeover, sporting a blonder, shorter do and also looking substantially thinner.

2. Halloween (18)
Not even Halloween is sacred in Sunnydale, naturally one would think there would be a surge in the supernatural on Halloween, but Giles tells Buffy the dark forces normally stay away. Giles’s former friend Ethan Rayne makes his first appearance, Rayne thrives on Chaos, and what results is a hilarious entertaining episode where the characters turn into their Halloween costumes. Xander becoming a soldier (which becomes useful in later seasons), Willow a ghost and Buffy a weak 18th century noblewoman. Willow has the funniest line in the episode with “You couldn’t have dressed like Xena”.

3. Innocence (26)
After Buffy and Angel consummate their relationship, Angel loses his soul, now enters Angelus, and the fun ensues. Buffy and the scoobies must thwart the Judge, a fully recovered Drusilla and Angelus. Buffy has the opportunity to kill Angelus in a fight, but she cannot, so she kicks him in the nether regions.

4. Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered (28)
After being dumped by Cordelia on valentines day, Xander approaches Amy (the witch) to perform a spell to make Cordelia fall in love with him, with disastrous effects. The entire female population in Sunnydale ends up falling in love with him, including: Willow, Buffy, Drusilla, Jenny Calender, and Joyce Summers, basically everybody except for Cordelia whom the spell was intended. One of the funniest episodes of the season, as well as containing the hilarious exchange between Buffy and Xander, much to Xanders surprise.

5. Becoming, Part 1 and 2 (33) (34)
Im going to cheat and include these episodes as one because I cannot chose one or the other. Part 1 delves into Angels past, how he became a vampire, how he regained his soul (the gypsy curse) and how he made his way to Sunnydale. As well as delving into Buffy’s past mainly how she became a slayer, and the dissolving of her parent’s marriage. Ultimately the episode ends with a fight in the library between vampires and scoobies, Giles is captured, Willow and Xander injured, Kendra the second slayer is killed by Drusilla. Buffy runs in (slow- mo of course, it looks cool) to find the library in shambles, Kendra dead and not knowing whether he friends were alive. The episode ends with a police officer pulling a gun on Buffy.

In Part 2 Buffy must rescue Giles and Kill Angelus before he awakens the demon Acathla. Buffy strikes a deal with an unlikely foe (Spike, Drusillas vampire partner) and Joyce, Buffys mother learns she is a vampire slayer.
Buffy and Angelus fight, Buffy almost kills Angelus but he has his soul restored by Willow. Angelus already awoke Acathla, so Buffy had no choice she still had to kill a now restored Angel.
Heartbroken and dejected Buffy leaves Sunnydale.

And that concludes my fav season 2 episodes, next is season 3.
