Cinema Voyage - Michael Pearson

This blog is PRIMARILY about movies. Some dvd and some that are still in the theater. Also, links are provided on some movies if you decide you want to purchase it. Also, I write and read quite a bit. So, you may, from time to time see a book review here from an up-and-coming author or an interview with one. If you have a book that you have written, please don't hesitate to contact me if you want an unbiased opinion. I would be happy to read and review what you've written. We should value our creative people more.

Finding Amanda – Movie Review

July 7th 2008 07:20

The 2008 comedy with a June 27 release date was directed by Peter Tolan (‘America’s Sweethearts’ and ‘Just Like Heaven’) starring Mathew Broderick (‘The Producers’) Brittany Snow (‘Prom Night’ and ‘American Dreams’), Maura Tierney (ER), Peter Facinelli (‘Cant Hardly Wait’ and ‘Twilight’).

The basic plot revolves around Taylor (Broderick) a washed up television producer with a proclivity to drinking and gambling. His wife Lorraine (Tierney) fed up with his behaviour threatens to leave him. Upon learning of his nieces ‘situation’ in Las Vegas, (she’s a hooker) in a bid to impress his wife goes to Las Vegas to retrieve Amanda (Snow) and bring her to rehab. Whilst continuing to battle his own demons.

Im sort of sitting on the fence with this one, there was no doubt I was entertained for the 100 minute run time, but it was hardly remarkably memorable. There were quite a few funny bits that produced a chuckle or two. I think my main problem was Broderick, Im not that much of a fan of his anyways, so that was strike one. Snow was perfect as a wholesome sweet as apple pie American hooker Amanda (I would imagine she would have the hooker bit down pat having played one her last three films: ‘On the Doll’, ‘Finding Amanda’ and ‘Black Water Transit’).

I hard a time sympathising with Taylor his selfish actions the whole movie pretty much put me of, though he sort of redeemed himself (a little) at the end.

If you’re a fan of Broderick’s or Snow then I would recommend it, overall an entertaining original breath of fresh air (minus that pesky Broderick).

3/5

Hi Bianca

It sounds like an OK film to see when sick/tired and the brain is weary.

I don't mind Matthew Broderick, so maybe I'll like this (I don't love him though). Nice review....looks like a good Sunday arvo kind of film (the kind of film that I dont' have to do too much thinking through)
