Cinema Voyage - Michael Pearson

This blog is PRIMARILY about movies. Some dvd and some that are still in the theater. Also, links are provided on some movies if you decide you want to purchase it. Also, I write and read quite a bit. So, you may, from time to time see a book review here from an up-and-coming author or an interview with one. If you have a book that you have written, please don't hesitate to contact me if you want an unbiased opinion. I would be happy to read and review what you've written. We should value our creative people more.

I Know Who Killed Me - Movie Review

September 2nd 2008 12:06

Starring: Lindsay Lohan, Julia Ormond, Neal McDonough and Brian Geraghty.

Where to begin?

This film won eight golden raspberry awards the highest amount to any one film, so coming into this film I was expecting the very worst.

The basic plotline is as follows:
Lohan plays Aubrey Fleming, an unfortunate young woman whose life -- and body -- are irreparably damaged following an abduction by a heinous serial killer. Though Aubrey pulls off a miraculous escape from the clutches of the madman, she does so with deep-seated psychological scars, plus the loss of a hand, a leg, and untold amounts of blood. While Aubrey's parents view her return as a veritable answer to their prayers, they must soon confront an outrageous and seemingly inexplicable twist: the girl who returned claims another identity -- that of a young woman named Dakota. She also exhibits a wholly different personality and mannerisms than Aubrey did, and -- frighteningly -- insists that Aubrey is still very much alive, in the throes of the maniac's grip, and only inches away from death.

First up I will admit I don’t mind Lohan, for the most part her work is entertaining and she is quite talented (Bobby, Mean Girls and Georgia Rule) being among the best. So ill say she didn’t do that bad a job in the film, not nearly enough to earn her the worst actress razzie.

The main problem with this film is the screenplay; it’s utterly confusing and full of plot holes. And for a movie bashed by critics, there is quite a bit of action on the IMDB boards discussing the films two plausible explanations of the twins/delusions experienced by Aubrey.

To give you a rough idea of the basic two sided argument:

1) The first explantion……. And face it, the most likely is what is presented to us at face value. Aubrey is kidnapped and Dakota, her twin sister, in a weird case of stigmata experiences the same horrific injuries inflicted upon Aubrey. She is discovered and mistaken for Aubrey…….. yada, yada, yada…….. figures out she is in fact aubreys twin sister and sensing her to be still alive, goes to her aid and eventually kills their ‘murderer’ just in time to save Aubrey, who had been buried alive.

2) The second explanation…. Also makes sense, though is never really implied at all through the film. Which is Aubrey subconsciously imagines a whole fantasy, where Dakota is really a figment in her mind. A way for her to save herself and have the happy ending. Whereby she does in fact die at the film. Though its never explained, and im assuming they won’t be making another one!!!

Im guessing that wouldn’t have made much sense; I still don’t really understand it myself.....

Ill give it up to the DPP though who did a marvellous job with the cinematography, the score was also fantastic by Joel McNeely and featuring a great soundtrack by artists such as The Melvins, Freya, Architecture In Helsinki, Out Hud and my personal favourite ‘Step On Inside’ by Vietnam.

It was also a tad strange to see Lindsay Lohan play a stripper, though I imagine her life at the top of filming this feature might have been quite similar.

I would say check it out on DVD, probably on a Tues or Wed when the dvds are $2, so I cant be blamed for wasting anyone’s money.

2.5 / 5

(oh and it is a little gory)

Trailer

And for those that may wish to see Ms Lohan.... a la stripper

And may i add the continuity people should be shot..... she changes shoes a few times here!!! tetete
