Cinema Voyage - Michael Pearson

This blog is PRIMARILY about movies. Some dvd and some that are still in the theater. Also, links are provided on some movies if you decide you want to purchase it. Also, I write and read quite a bit. So, you may, from time to time see a book review here from an up-and-coming author or an interview with one. If you have a book that you have written, please don't hesitate to contact me if you want an unbiased opinion. I would be happy to read and review what you've written. We should value our creative people more.

Im hanging out for the movie adaptation!!

August 5th 2008 06:55
So there have been many books made into films, some successful some not.

With many coming out over the next year, including:

- ‘The Time Travellers Wife’ – starring Eric Bana and Rachel Mc Adams

- ‘The Lovely Bones’ – starring Mark Walhberg, Rachel Weisz, Saoirse Ronan, Susan Sarandon and Stanley Tucci.

- ‘My Sisters Keeper’ – starring Cameron Diaz, Alec Baldwin, Abigail Breslin and Joan Cusack.

- ‘Twilight’ – starring Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Kellan Lutz and Nikki Reed.

Im really hoping some of my other favourite books will be adapted to the big screen.

Many people have strong opinions on popular books being turned into films, some believe it ultimately destroys the essence of the book, as we all picture in our minds the way characters should look, how they sound and the general settings within the novel.
Either way for the most part I enjoy book adaptations, and am eagerly awaiting the following…

* The Ugly Series by Scott Westerfield. The four books comprise of Uglies, Preeties, Specials and Extra’s.
The basic premise follows Tally an Ugly, set in a futuristic world, where upon a teens 16th birthday, have an operation to be turned into a bubblehead Pretty. She befriends a fellow ugly Shay, who eventually convinces her to leave the city and move to the ‘Smoke’ where a whole community of Uglies live.
My little summary there doesn’t really do the book series any justice. The books film’s rights have been secured, so we should see this film in the next few years.

* Tomorrow When the War Began – by John Marsden
Im going to go out on a limb now and say John Marsden created one of the most successful teen novel franchises in the world with his Tomorrow Series and Ellie Chronicles.

The Tomorrow Series focuses on Ellie Linton and her group of friends that are caught in the middle of a highly intense military invasion by a foreign country, set in Austraia. The teens then wage a guerrilla war against the invaders in their small town of Wirrawee.

The rights to the novels were bought by Ebsen Storm, as of March 2008 he know longer owns the rights. The film has been in the pipeline for some time. It would be nice if the films production could stay in Australia, but I think the only way the film could be truly successful and half decent was if there was some foreign involvement.

The Bronze Horeseman by Paullina Simons
Who couldn’t help falling in love with Alexander and Tatiana, set in war torn Russia during WWII. Last word was Paullina Simons was writing a screenplay, because she didn’t trust the novel to anyone else. So hears hoping with get a film soon.

Road to Paradise by Paullina Simons
I found it hard at first to get into the book, contemplated putting it down and was glad by the end that I hadn’t.
I fell in love with this book and honestly believe in the right hands with the right actors it could be magical.
novel outline
Shelby Sloane gets a canary yellow Mustang convertible as a graduation present, she sets off with friend Gina on what they hope will be a road trip of a lifetime.
But after picking up Candy – a young woman they find hitchhiking on a country road – a ride that begins with high spirits and dreams of freedom soon turns into a journey through the darkest back roads of America, pursued by fear and betrayal.
Forced to make serious moral choices with critical consequences for their future, the three girls find themselves on a very different journey to the one they set out on
