Cinema Voyage - Michael Pearson

This blog is PRIMARILY about movies. Some dvd and some that are still in the theater. Also, links are provided on some movies if you decide you want to purchase it. Also, I write and read quite a bit. So, you may, from time to time see a book review here from an up-and-coming author or an interview with one. If you have a book that you have written, please don't hesitate to contact me if you want an unbiased opinion. I would be happy to read and review what you've written. We should value our creative people more.

Prom Night - Movie Review

April 20th 2008 03:36

Caught a screening of Prom Night at Greater Union on George Street… Now they are some comfy seats, that should have given you a hint there, about the nature of this review, basically it was stodgy turd.

The latest remake of the 1980, starred Jamie Lee Curtis and Leslie Nielsen. The 2008 Prom Night stars; Brittany Snow (American Dreams, John Tucker Must Die), Jonathan Schaech (That Thing You Do), Dana Davies (Heroes), Scott Porter (Friday Night Lights) and Kellan Lutz (Twilight) and directed by Nelson McCormick.

Brittany Snow plays the damsel in distress Donna Keppel whose family was murdered by her obsessed former teacher. Basically as the title suggests he goes after her on her prom night, killing all her friends, and it’s not as if im giving anything away here.
There was one thing that distracted me the WHOLE film and that was the enormous scar thing on Brittany Snow’s forehead, I couldn’t concentrate on anything else during the movie.

As far as a Horror/Thriller it failed dismally, the murder/death scenes were sketchy at best and were more than anything extremely amusing, and considering all the deaths in the flick, 14 in total there was virtually no blood. Prom Night was filled with nauseating teeny bopper dialogue and it was cliché galore.

Slightly entertaining, but shallow, you will most likely hate yourself after watching!!

LOL - my review for this film was basically a word for word copy. I won't even publish it now in full. Will do a holiday brief on all films released for last 3 weeks. I kept wanting to flick her forehead. I watch the films in empty cinemas with a friend/ projection trainee and kept asking him (more like yelling in disgust) "why the hell did they NOT cover that stupid 3rd eye!!". As for the blood, I do believe a throat slash requires more than a graze amount of blood. And what's with her best friend realising that the guy she kind of recognised was the killer during sex then going downstairs to then a) decide to walk the stairs instead of the lift that ends up taking her to an abandoned "being renovated" part of the building and then b) this killed me!!! Her boyfriend gets ready and heads back to the party with a lift stop at the abandoned floor to call her name looking for her. As far as he knows she is back at the party. HELLO PLOT!!!!! Appalling. And, I used to make blood for short films - it is not hard, peanut butter, corn syrup plus red and blue food dye - that's it. NOT HARD. This is what teenagers want to see for holidays. Blood, gore and something to make them scream and (if on a date) jump into each others arm. Not this schlop. Argggh - I feel much better now. Thanks for my release. LOL

Very good review.

I think there have been too many remakes of films lately, as I've already seen 3:10 To Yuma (decent enough remake) and Sleuth (with Jude Law and Micheal Caine and loved it).

I'm interested in seeing Prom Night out of curiosity.

This movie looked bad from the trailer so it wasn't a huge surprise that it was going to be a crap movie. Horror movies just ain't what they used to be
