The Bridge to Terrabithia
December 18th 2010 16:02
Basic Storyline:
Life is boring and ordinary for Jess. He is the target of bullies, his older sisters are always annoying to him... life is so bad for him that he had to wear his sister's pink-striped hand-me-down shoes to school. (Although he colored-in the stripes with a black permanent marker so it was disguised... well... somewhat disguised.) He hates his life and 7th grade, that is, until comes to town. Not only is she the most amazing person he had ever met, but she quickly becomes the best friend he ever had. She teaches him about life, about friendship, and about the qualities of the human imagination.
Review:
A truly amazing story. I had never read the Newberry Award winning novel of the same name, further, I had never heard of it. When I first saw the trailer on television, I thought it was going to be a copy-cat Narnia movie. I was wrong. What I found when I watched it was a story both simple and complex. You remember how it was when you were a child. You were always worried about what others would think, at the same time, you are trying to learn about the real world. The use of imagination with the main characters when they cross their "magical rope bridge" and the way Leslie puts their enemies (bullies from school) into their imaginary world and brings Jess into it is wonderful. This is a movie where you really care about the characters. You will come away wishing Terrabithia was the real world, and remembering when it was real for you as a child.
