Basic Storyline:
"Red" Redding (Freeman) has been imprisoned for murder for most of his life and has been up for parole many times. He's seen people come and seen people go, but he's never seen one like Andy Dufresne (Robbins). In the beginning he believes Dufresne to be weak willed, but Red will see the true resilience of the human spirit and form a bond that lasts a lifetime both within and without the walls of Maine's Shawshank Prison.
Review:
Stephen King shows he is not only a master in the horror genre, but that he understands the tenacity and determination that a human being has to offer.
This is a story of surprise after surprise, the best being last. Words from this movie will resonate with anyone who watches. Like the words of Andy Dufresne in response to a question posed by "Red."
"The way I see it, there are only two choices... get busy living, or get busy dying."
A human drama that centers the talent of King, proving him to be the reincarnation of both Hemmingway and Poe. Hat's off to you Mr. King. You have yourself a masterpiece.
