'The Tracey Fragments' Film review
March 9th 2008 07:37
Based on the novel of the same name by Maureen Medved, directed by Bruce McDonald and starring Ellen Page.
This quirky indie flick, currently awaiting release, is definitely an eccentric and sometimes strange movie. There is absolutely no doubt when watching The Tracey Fragments, that Ellen Page has a wonderful career ahead of her. She is enchanting as 15 year old Tracey Berkowitz. Struggling to cope with her everyday life, bullying from her peers and the ‘disappearance of her younger brother’. She runs away from home to find her brother and to figure out who she is and where she fits into the world. She begins to see the world for what it truly is.
Visually the movie is unlike anything I have ever seen before; Tracey Fragments is the first feature film to use Mondrian multi-frame compositions throughout the entire film. There are only several instances where one single shot would be shown. Aside from the multi-frame editing, the film is quite stunning, the cinematography is breathtaking.
‘Tracey fragments’ is an interesting movie, but it is not for everyone. The movie focused a great deal on teenage angst, which may be to ‘in your face’ for some viewers. Many people will find the Multi-frames, distracting and confusing.
For those who like watch something a little different, ‘The Tracey Fragments’ is the movie to see. You can’t help but lose yourself in the movie. Ellen page is a joy to watch, she has so much access to herself, and she is amazing as Tracey.
