Time Traveler's Wife
June 12th 2009 07:53
I enjoyed reading Time Traveler's wife by Audrey Niffenegger and was immediately pleased to hear that it would be made into a movie starring Eric Bana (Star Trek, The Other Boleyn Girl) and Rachel McAdams (State Of Play, Married Life).
Directed by Robert Schwentke (Flightplan - 2005) and adapted by Bruce Joel Rubin (Deep Impact, Ghost) it will be interesting to see how this movie plays out. Essentially a romantic drama with a sci-fi twist, Henry DeTamble (Bana) has a gene which causes involuntary time travel.
Henry begins to travel through time at five years of age and his destinations are related to his own history. Always arriving naked at his destination, he learns a number of skills to help him survive the travel including pickpocketing, lock-picking and fighting. One of Henry's main destinations is to visit his wife Clare (McAdams) as a child - the first visit when she is six years old. He gives her a list of his future appearances in order that she can help hime with clothes and food when he arrives.
Henry also enlists the help of a geneticist, Dr Kendrick (Stephen Tobolowsky) to help find a cure as well to seek out pharmaceuticals in the future that may assist him jumping through time. Clare and Henry learn that the gene that he carries will be passed on to any children the couple may have.
The release date has been pushed back a number of times with the latest release date set for August this year.
